Terrafugia Transition Successful First Flight
Flying cars is not a dream right now anymore. And Terrafugia has made it real with its flying car, Transition. At Plattsburgh International Airport (New York) on March 5th Terrafugia Transition has made its first successful flight after six months of road and taxi testing.
Terrafugia Transition is a two-seat aircraft designed to take off and land at local airports and drive on any road. Categorized as a Light Sport Aircraft, the Transition will require a Sport Pilot license to fly. Amazingly, Terrafugia Transition transforms itself from plane to car takes time less than 30 seconds. It is also amazing that the vehicle comes with standard car tires and runs on normal pump fuel.
Terrafugia Transition is powered by a 100hp (75kW) Rotax engine to fly at 100 knots (115mph or 185km/h) and 400 nautical miles of range. Weighing at 1,320lb (600kg) the futuristic vehicle is good in the air and on the road.
Terrafugia Transition started development in 2006. The prototype still on the process to make it ready to sell to the consumers after getting all certification requirements. It is not expected until the end of the year. The pricing will be around the $194,000 mark, expected.
